Thursday May 13th, 2010 was a terribly sad day. Erin McDermott and I decided to bike up South Mountain that day, and we never looked back. Behind us stood our pubescent sillouettes drifting into oblivion like a orphaned balloon, lifting higher and higher with every hill we tortuised up...on our granny gears. However, the word hill does not give justice to the ridiculousness of what we conquered that day, these beasts had an incline of over 90 degrees to the ground and I feared tipping over if I stopped peddling. We climbed 1450 feet in 5.5 miles, need I say more.
Reaching the top was such an accomplishment for the both of us, and I know we couldnt have done it without eachother. Erin practically saved my life a couple times by screaming at me whenever I would teter off into the lane with oncoming traffic near a bend in the path, and I helped push her forward despite her everstrong desire to throw up. Going up the mountain, we experienced the power of community, as we carried eachother up the mountain. I am so excited about being able to experience this same power on daily during the tour, as I will both play the carrier, and carry-e?, during our trek up the coast. I am so ready experience the Body of Christ in a real way, its going to be great.
Also quick side note...At the top Erin and I saw a cool Gila Monster, and at the bottom we talked with a friend of Erin's who was the clone of Jim Gaffigan. Gila Monster + Jim Gaffigan-Clone+ Insane Bike Ride Up Big Mountain= Nirvana
