Yesterday as I was riding the 98 miles from Brownfield to Snyder across the hot Texas plains, I got this song by Caedmon's Call stuck in my head. It's called Share the Well and the line I was repeating over and over to myself (when I'm biking I'll often got one thought in my mind and it'll just stay stuck there for hours sometimes, it does help the time pass, biking can be boring occasionally) as I was saying, the line is, "Share the well, share with your brother, share the well my friend" It seemed appropriate 'cause that is our cause. To share the well, share the water with our friends in Africa. I'll paste the song in here and let you read it yourself....
Share the well, share with your brother
Share the well my friend
It takes a deeper well to love one another
Share the well my friend
Do you think the water knows
Flowing down the mountain thaw
Finally to find repose
For any soul who cares to draw
Some kindred keepers of this Earth
On their way to join the flow
Are cast aside and left to thirst
Tell me now it is not so
Share the well, share with your brother
Share the well my friend
It takes a deeper well to love one another
Share the well my friend
All God's creatures share the water h***
The bleesed day the monsoon comes
And in His image we are woven
Every likeness every one
From Kashmir to Karala
Under every banyan tree
Mothers for their children cry
With empty jar and bended knee
Share the well, share with your brother
Share the well my friend
It takes a deeper well to love one another
Share the well my friend
You know I've heard good people say
There's nothing I can do
That's half a world away
Well maybe you've got money
Maybe you've got time
Maybe you've got the Living Well
That ain't ever running dry
Share the well, share with your brother
Share the well my friend
It takes a deeper well to love one another
Share the well my friend
That's the song, so there's that and then second, this morning Pastor Buddy at the 1st Methodist church we went to spoke from Revelation 2 about remembering our first love and then, acting out of love and not just duty. Does my biking become just a duty? Do I crank out pedal after pedal with my head down trying not to think about how far I still have to go thinking only of myself? Am I giving my time this summer because I feel like I should, like it's a good thing to do, or because the Love of Christ compels me to Share the Well? I think I'm going to be asking those questions to myself every morning....
In other news; I'm currently typing and watching the rest of the team eat dinner together (my food is sitting on the table ready as soon as I finish this) this team is great and this moment feels like a real family dinner, with jokes flying around like a flock of starlings you can't settle down because they are excited about life and in love with each other. I love this team....
