We road into Chandler yesterday. I was running "sweep" with Erin. Basically we stay behind the group and make sure everyone gets fixed up or has extra water, or whatever they need to keep going. I'd heard it was not really a fun job, but it turned out to be a great time. I'm sure that was partly because the weather didn't get that hot, and the group was moving along pretty quickly, but mostly I enjoyed it because every time Dustin had a flat I made fun of him.. and I had a water gun.
The first flat was less then two miles from the starting point. Unfortunately that picture didn't stick, but I've chronicled the rest with pictures. Man I was discouraged at this point. I was picturing a stop every 10-15 min to change a flat. It turned out alot better then that though as we only had a couple more flats throughout the day.
Jacob (he kept refilling his tire until he got to the van because he didn't want to deal with changing it)

Dustin has a flat. No I'm not going to hold your tube.
Dustin has another flat.. Something about unscrewing the valve?
Surprise. It's time to bust out another tube for Dustin's bike...
The people here in Chandler are awesome. They had a crew ready for us that cleaned our bikes! I had the opportunity to eat with my Grandparents as well as one of my aunts and uncles who live near by. We went to this delicious Mexican place in downtown Chandler. It was good to see them.
This morning our hosts, Jerry and Deb Gray cooked us an unbelievable meal. Omelets, fruit, biscuits 'n gravy, bacon, and potatoes! Staying with them has been a study in hospitality for me. I've visited people many times and stayed with strangers in the past, but this was completely different. Their care literally brings me to tears. They insist on taking care of our every need and anticipate wants that I'd never even thought of! Just before the trip I was talking with a friend about how long it had been since I'd had icecream cake, and how much I'd love some. God is good. The Gray's brought out homemade icecream cake.
