a different worldview is possible...

It’s hard not to think of the Body of Christ in Carrizozo. Right now a truck is pulling up to unload food for the church’s food pantry. Pastor Barb and the A/G church partner with all the other churches in town to feed ¾ of the community each week. It’s an amazing example. I heard her say multiple times…we couldn’t do it if we weren’t working together. All the food goes in and out through our host church. This church has such tangible affect on the surrounding community. So much so that if taken away it would be a huge loss of the entire town…it would be widely noticed. How many churches can you really say that of?

That’s one of the reasons I love doing ride:well. You are afforded the privilege to step into churches and communities in a way that no other experience allows. You get to see an honest picture of what the church is and what it could be. For me…I’m left lingering in hope…hope for the church to be the light it can be, for the people of Marsabit to have access to whole and
healthy lives, hope for our team that we’ll see the beauty among us each day let
it flow from us, for me that my pride decreases and courage multiplies.

N.T. Wright says “hope is what you get when you suddenly realize that a different worldview is possible…” That’s what ride:well has done for me. A different worldview is possible. One that encompasses and lives out the resurrection of Christ…He who overcame death and the grave… I believe in a day when wrongs will be made right…when I think of this hope I have, I can’t help but to be motivated to work for that day now.

I think the work blood:water does in connecting communities here with communities in Africa to empower one another in working towards wholeness fuels that hope…they are not giving handouts they are fighting for justice… it takes more then just giving clean water and medical supplies it takes
fighting against systems that hold people down. When I think of this work I’m reminded that what may seem impossible in human terms is possible to God…I love this.

I loved that town and the work of the church there. Thanks for reminding us just how much is possible with God.

Titus 3:8 Those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone. Erin, I'm so encouraged by you. Thank you for your passion to lead this team. Love you. Sandra

such a great reminder, erin. the other day in san luis obisbo, i was blown away by the church's response to justice. they are walking in step with God, and it is so encouraging to see, and to hear that your team is seeing it too...again. :)

So great to see all the hands and feet of Jesus around. I think they are probably having a similar conversation about the team right now and how you guys are riding bikes for people in another continent and how inspiring that is. :) You are impacting so many lives both here and in Africa my friend. Love you!

Great, you and the team's lives will be changed by the people you meet, the obstacles you encounter, and the things God speaks into your lives during this trip. I love the words of Hope and remembering all things are possible with God. The future is exciting!

Such a great post. Carl and were talking about how impressed we were with the work being done Carrizozo on our ride today. I'm sure the people of that church move food like they did last night very frequently and if our whole group hadn't been around they would have spent a good deal of time moving it. Very amazing commitment to what they are doing in that community. It was a blessing to see it.
