Bri and I went to San Diego last weekend. It was a weekend vacation and a chance to do some training in warmer weather. It was about 40 last weekend in Minneapolis and 75 with sun in San Diego. Hard to beat if you ask me.
We decided to ride a tandem bike this summer. Thats a 2 person bike if you don't know. So thats the latest news from the Olson front.
One of the things I've been struggling with is this idea of discipleship on our tour. I really want all of us to be changed by God this summer. For the Lord to do miracles not just with the wells built, but also miracles in the hearts of us riders. Dosen't that sound great! But how? How do we together become more like Christ?
As one of the tour leaders I'm committed to helping everyone on the tour "discover your soul". So what does that mean?
Well I think its so different for everyone. We have a wonderful mix of people going on our tour who have totally different needs and past experiences. On past tours we have set up time daily for everyone to have a personal quiet time. We have had a tour chapel on friday afternoons, where someone from the group would share each friday afternoon.
How much structure do we add to the tour? Some people may need and want lots of structure. Some people may need little planned time.
The question is: How do we help each other fall in love with Jesus more?

Please respond with thoughts and ideas.

i feel like greg and mike said around the same thing, and i agree. i think as we are going, we will begin to know more of what we will need, and how often. and i think we will help each other fall in love with Jesus more, as we each experience different things while riding, and as we share those with each other. also, the way we encourage each other to get through the times when we dont think we can make it, we will be helping one another fall more in love with Jesus, and also gain our strength and endurance through His power, and not try to do so through our own. so, i think we should be flexible with structure, and we will find out what is needed most along the way.

Jesse, I think when we embark on trips like this we are never really sure what God is going to show us. I've been on trips where I thought I was going to get a certain something out of it and God completely turned it around and made me realize that it is all in His plans and on His terms. So I think that the hardest part is finding a good medium between structured time with God and just letting God work in all of us at any given time. Like you mentioned before, we are all coming from different past experiences and we all learn at different paces. As far as me personally, I have a flexible personality and know that structure works and I also know that situations without structure have worked for me as well. When God is in something like this, it's hard to go wrong with whatever you choose.

Jesse,
very interesting question. There is no easy answer to this one. However, how we discover our soul is to witness firsthand the power of transformation when we are obedient and allow God to work through us. We observe little miracles as we get ready for this ride and they lead us to the big one and that is what ordinary people can do with the power of God in them. We see our transformations from timid "can I do this" epic ride talk to YES ! I can and am doing this. We will be witness to so many others. Our families, friends, supporters and even non-believers. I know several people who have looked at me very crazy when I told them I was going to ride over 3,000 miles in the summer on a bicycle. But when I do it, it will be a powerful testimony to what an unleashed God can do. This reminds me of coordinating a mission trip as you worry about peoples expectations and Gods promises and how they will mesh. I have discovered God always delivers far more than we could ever expect. There will be riders that will get an up close and personal experience of God and some less than that. It is how we seek and the questions we ask ourselves on the hard days that the interesting answers will come. Be prepared for those. Finally how do we help each other fall in love with Jesus more ? We simply follow the lead of Jesus and love and embrace our differences and be encouragers for one another. The manner in which you give, you will receive. I applaud your questions and hope the other riders will respond with input on what they need for structure. Hope this blurb has helped.
