About Me:
Howdy. My name is Anne and this is me. Me, me, me.

I am going to be riding with the Pacific Coast Tour 2010. I just graduated from college with a degree in History. I am a big American History nerd and think that every person should be better educated about our nation's story.

I am from Colorado, I like to write and sometimes call myself a writer, I think the mountains are pretty and I love kittens. I like to travel around the country, and I look doing things outside. Swimming is sometimes fun, and so is rock climbing. Running is mostly hard, but it can be enjoyable at times. Cycling is a completely new endeavor, but I imagine I will like it.

Hmm, what else?

Just ask!

It's been 6 months...

It's been about 6 months since the Ride:Well Tour 2010 ended, and I'm starting to get sense that I'm about to begin the heart of my processing... It might sound crazy that it'd take this much time, but a life changing adventure that was as grueling and intense and refining as the Pacific Coast tour was will undoubtedly take a lot of time to be fully digested.

So I've been thinking a lot about the tour lately, about my team, about being on the bike, and how the trip changed…

remembering our motto: just keep pedaling, then take breaks.

A couple of days ago, I had a dream that I was back on my bicycle, riding up a giant hill. I don't often remember my dreams anymore, and I am not really one to say that dreams mean certain things (not that they never have meant anything... hello, Bible!... anyways) but this dream keeps coming back to me. The next day, I was sitting with my parents and boyfriend at dinner and memories of my cross-country cycling trip started…

My fish and loaves

Today was bizarre. I didn’t ride and opted to be in the van so that I could rest my knee and prevent further injury. Thinking it would be quiet and restful, I was thrown off when, halfway through the day, I started

having feelings of wanting to be on my bike. We’d stop to give our team water,

and they would recount their stories of massive uphill climbs and this

interesting biker-couple we keep running into, and I felt like I was really

missing out. I…

Orientation

Now that we are two and a half weeks into the Ride:Well Tour... wait... tomorrow is our three week-a-versary... ok, so now that we are three weeks into the Ride:Well Tour, I feel like I need to re-orient myself. We are closer now as a team, more like a family. We are encountering more conflicts in a different way, bike issues and more injuries that are becoming less novel and more agitating as they persist. We are heading into new terrain, too, as we get out into northern California and the… Continue

Unfortunately I have only narrowed my search down to most bikes with rack mounts. I hadn't looked into the Trek 520 yet, so I'll have to add that to my list. The ones I had looked into so far are Surly Cross Check, Kona Sutra, Jamis Aurora, or building up a bike from scratch. Recently the Specialized Tricross and this new really cool looking bike from Salsa (http://www.salsacycles.com/amigos/2010/01/introducing-vaya.html) popped onto my radar. It seems like the more I look into it the harder it is to choose one =/

Yes, you are a definitely a bum. But I'll forgive you since you posted those clips from The Office. For my thesis I'm focusing on religion during the Early Republic. You have any specialty?

Just read over your blog. Looks good! I'm trying my best to finish my masters degree in history this semester, so we'll be able to commiserate as we try to balance history studies with training. I'm doing the Southern Tour, but hopefully we will be able to exchange congrats about freshly finished degree programs when we see each other in San Diego...

Yikes indeed! Good news is that there are no Tarantula Wasps in the the Pacific Coast I don't think. They tortured us starting in New Mexico and didn't go away 'til Louisiana. Have fun, Erin McDermott aka McSquirmy aka Easy Mac is going on that ride and she's awesome.
