i have found myself somewhat surprised by certain side effects of the tour. there were some things i expected, like sore legs, chamois issues, and being hungry all the time. but i didn’t expect my elbows and wrists to get sore. and i didn’t expect to get calluses in weird places on my hands. and i didn’t expect to be deeply changed by the people i’ve met in my time on the west coast. but i was.

 

one new experience i’ve had on our tour is getting sunburned. i have a pretty dark complexion and don’t burn very easily, so i never really knew what it was like to have a legit sunburn. but because of that, i mostly forget to use sunscreen. and then, i got a sunburn. and now i know that it hurts. there’s this comedian named demetri martin and i think he is pretty funny. i like what he has to say about sunburns:  “i like suntans, but i’m more interested in sunburns. cause a sunburn tells a… Continue

oh what a triumphant day! it was fabulous to ride into the city blasting the song that has been our mantra since day one! we worked so hard. we rode, we climbed, we ached (some of us crashed). and we had so much fun. we sang, we danced, we laughed (and laughed, and laughed). and we were finally here. there was nothing else to do but dance to our ride:well song of the day: hello, seattle by owl city!…

so we have been living in this strange limbo for the past few weeks. i think we have all been asking this question of ourselves; is this real life? we have been living almost completely contrarily to our lives at home. we are with a group of about 10 people 24 hours a day. we pack up all our possessions in a rubbermaid bin every morning and rarely do we stay the same place twice. we mostly rely on the generosity of the people we meet along the way. none of us are working for a salary. we…
